A Tale Too Faint To BeA Tale Too Faint To Be

Synopsis

Yi, about to become a mother, returns to Yunshang seeking her mother's guidance. Yet nothing remains in Yunshang but the mist that shrouds the mountains, and a dream she is unwilling to wake from. Is life found within the dream, or is the dream the true life? A story like this may never come to be, yet I still imagine it so.

Director's Statement

Memory is unreliable, much like a house consumed by fire: only the contours remain. In this film, I attempt to construct a space where dreams, memories and imagination interweave. Drawing on the overcast skies, lakes and mist unique to Guizhou, I create a sense of fluid uncertainty. Here, the past and the present are concurrent states of being; fragile as morning frost, and just as fleeting.
